Delightful Challenge

That sure was a looong holiday!…Happy Idul Fitri to those celebrating and mohon maaf lahir batin… Mohon maaf also for the long break from updating our blog..By the way, school has started and the children are back. We have a new friend in TK, and lots of stories about how the children spent their holidays. This week’s delightful challenge is putting the children (15 active four and five year olds) in 2 groups for a competitive game of ‘answer the questions’ based on a story read earlier. After a very long holiday, that was definitely a challenge!

“Ok, let’s divide the class into 2 groups and name your group. Let’s see…Ghia, Yodha, Tiana…..in group 1; Raga, Mirza, Hasbi, Najwa….in group 2”

Chaos ensued.
“ aku sama Ghia”; “Aku sama Yodha”; “ Aku sama Raga” the children shouted excitedly, each one hanging on to their closest friend. “Hmmm…wasn’t going to be easy.”
“ Alright then, all girls in group 1 and all boys in Group 2” It took a while for the girls and boys to gather in 2 groups.
“Ok, girls, decide on a name for your group. Boys, decide on a name for your group”

Another chaos ensued as the children again broke up into pairs and chose a name for themselves.
“ aku sama Najwa dolphin; aku dinosaur; aku snake; kalau kadal apa bahasa Inggrisnya?;” and on it went.
After some explaining that each group should have only one name representing the whole group and agreed to by everyone, the girls immediately bundled up together and quickly decided on the name ‘dolphin’; In the meantime the boys were still struggling.
“Boys, you have 5 or 6 names here, let’s vote – the name with more votes will be your group name” Whew! that worked and the boys finally had a group name.

Then it was on to the next challenge - getting 15 children not to shout out the answers at the top of their voices all at the same time, er sometimes a little bit too close to the ears..but to follow the rules of the game. Indeed, we are definitely back and having fun again!
